My Scoby has what looks like white cartilage around the edge. Is this normal?
Hi Robert. Cartilage-looking material is common for pellicle growth. Sometimes it will grow in a smooth uniform disk like you might see in photos, but that’s not always the case as it can grow thicker in spots such as the edge or random places in the middle. All of these are normal. Feel free to send some photos to info@fermentaholics.com for verification. Cheers.
I bought your Live Starter Culture, but only want to make 1/2 gallon to start with. Do I just use half all ingredients? What about the scoby and starter culture?
Thanks!
Hi Peter,
You’re going to want to half the recipe for the sweet tea. For the SCOBY, you can split it in half or use all of it. Either way will work.
