This baster is 18.25 inches long, and the length does one job: it gets to liquid your hand can’t reach.
Each squeeze draws about 2 oz. That’s a taste, a pH check, a few drops for a refractometer, or a small injection; it isn’t a transfer. If you’re moving a batch from one vessel to another, use a siphon. A hydrometer test jar holds around 250 mL, so filling one takes roughly four draws; if gravity readings are your main job, a wine thief does it in one pull. What this does better is reach a taste or a small test sample at the bottom of a tall vessel without tipping it or putting your arm in.
The tube is stainless steel, 7/8 inch across, with a black rubber bulb on top. Narrow enough to drop through a fermenter neck or a jar mouth, smooth enough that residue rinses straight out instead of collecting in a seam.
It works the same way in the kitchen. Draw stock from the bottom of a stockpot without lifting it, inject marinade into a roast, or pull the fat off the top of a pan while it’s still on the burner and your hand stays clear of the heat.
Stainless tube, rubber bulb, 18.25 inches, about 2 oz per draw.
